Wig on or off while showering?
The simple answer is: it’s best not to shower with your wig on. Water can cause the hair fiber to frizz and matt, requiring your immediate attention to untangle which can cause significant cap damage. However, we know it isn’t always possible to remove your wig prior. Lets examine some best practices to prevent damage.
Protecting Your Wig in the Shower.
If you must wear a wig in the shower you need to ensure the wig doesn’t get wet and neither does your hair underneath. Most of all the hair line must be protected.
- A snug fitting shower cap is a great barrier to protect your wig from water. Ensure that the shower cap is fitted correctly especially around the hairline and that no hair escapes.
- Hair wraps may also be a good alternative if a shower cap wont work. With hair wraps though please consider not placing your head directly under the shower head.
- You don’t want water to splash or run onto your hairline.
- Be careful when removing the shower cap so as not to grab your wig at the same time
- Last but not least check your adhesive (glue/tape) is dry after showering

For the protection and longevity of your wig it’s best to remove before showering. Although if wearing a wig in the shower is unavoidable don’t forget your shower cap to keep the head and hairline dry at all costs!
