An excellent Attack Support and counter-attacker in one: 4-Star Polearm wielder Yun Jin has arrived in Genshin Impact. The Director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe is another Support character with Geo Vision, but she’s quite different from General Gorou. If you want to know the best Yun Jin build ideas and team compositions, we’ve got you covered.

Yun Jin Abilities
Yun Jin is a Sub DPS, shield provider, and Normal Attack Support. That sounds like a lot, but her abilities aren’t all that complicated. The Elemental Skill shield has a short duration, so it’s only able to block one incoming attack at a time, after which you’ll deal immediate counter damage. It’s especially great if you’re fighting a boss.
Don’t confuse Yun Jin’s shield ability with Beidou’s though. There’s an important difference: the Opening Flourish shield deals damage based on its charge level (the time you’ve spent holding it), not the amount of hits taken. In other words, it can be a strong attack even if the shield doesn’t absorb much damage.
Finally, Yun Jin’s Burst is a Support skill that allows you to deal increased Normal Attack damage with your main DPS. Like the Elemental Skill damage, this Normal Attack bonus scales with Yun Jin’s Defense stat. To make maximum use of this ability, be sure to use different Elemental Visions once the Breaking Conventions Passive Skill is unlocked.
Cloud-Grazing Strike (Normal Attack)
- Normal Attacks: Performs up to five Polearm strikes.
- Charged Attack: Consumes Stamina to dash forward, damaging all enemies in range.
- Plunging Attack: Deals AOE damage on impact.
Opening Flourish (Elemental Skill)
- Press the Elemental Skill button to deal Geo damage.
- Holding the Elemental Skill button will charge the Skill and form a shield.
- The shield absorbs damage based on Yun Jin’s maximum HP. All Elemental and Physical damage is absorbed 150% more effectively.
- When the shield breaks, the Elemental Skill is unleashed (by letting go of the button), or the timer runs out, the stored Energy is unleashed as a Geo attack.
- The shield has two charge levels. The second charge level is reached by holding the Elemental Skill button longer. This will deal more damage.
- The Elemental Skill damage scales with Yun Jin’s Defense stat.
Cliffbreaker’s Banner (Elemental Burst)
- Deals AOE Geo damage.
- Casts the Flying Cloud Flag Formation on nearby allies. This grants the following effects:
- When a character deals Normal Attack damage to opponents, they’ll be granted bonus damage based on Yun Jin’s Defense.
- The effect ends if all 30 stacks (hits) are consumed or when the timer runs out (12 seconds).
- If one Normal Attack hits multiple opponents, stacks are consumed based on the number of opponents hit.
- The number of stacks is counted independently for each party member.
True to Oneself (Passive 1) – Ascension 1
- Using the Elemental Skill at the exact moment an enemy attacks will activate the second shield charge level immediately.
Breaking Conventions (Passive 2) – Ascension 4
- The Normal Attack damage bonus granted by the Elemental Burst is increased based on the number of Elements present in the party.
- One, two, three, or four different Elements on the team will increase the bonus by 2.5/5/7.5/11.5% of Yun Jin’s Defense, respectively.
Light Nourishment (Passive 3) – Unlocked
- When a dish with adventure-related effects is cooked perfectly, there’s a 12% chance to receive double the product.
Best Yun Jin Build
Weapon Options
Unfortunately, we don’t have any Polearms with Defense as a main stat yet. In fact, none of the current Polearms in Genshin Impact are a perfect fit for Yun Jin.
Among the 5-Stars though, Skyward Spine is a pretty good option for a Sub DPS build as it increases Normal Attack damage and Energy Recharge. The Attack bonus works pretty well because it scales with excess Energy, which is also Yun Jin’s Ascension stat.
If you don’t have a 5-Star Polearm, then you should equip your Sub DPS Yun Jin with the Prototype Starglitter. With the right timing, you can use the Normal Attack boost while the Burst field is active. A full-Support Yun Jin would make better use of a Polearm with a passive Defense bonus though, making Deathmatch the best option.
Skyward Spine (5-Star) – Increases Energy Recharge, Critical Rate, and Normal Attack Speed. Normal and Charged Attacks have a 50% chance to deal additional damage based on the wearer’s Attack.
Engulfing Lightning (5-Star) – Increases Energy Recharge. Attack is increased by up to 56% of the Energy Recharge above 100% to a maximum bonus of 120%. After using an Elemental Burst, gain up to 50% Energy Recharge for 12 seconds.
Prototype Starglitter (4-Star) – Increases Energy Recharge. Normal and Charged Attack damage is increased for a duration of 12 seconds after using an Elemental Skill.
Deathmatch (4-Star) – Increases Critical Rate. Also grants up to 32% Attack and Defense increase if at least two opponents are nearby. If there are fewer than two, Attack and Defense are increased by 48% instead.
Best Yun Jin Artifacts
The best Artifact set for Yun Jin is a no-brainer: Husk of Opulent Dreams. It increases her Defense and Geo Damage, and works well with her passive Support ability (she’ll gain Curiosity while off-field).
It’s easier to get a Defender’s Will two-piece set though, so combining that with a two-piece Husk is also fine. If you want to focus more on the Burst Support, swap Defender’s Will with a two-piece Emblem of Severed Fate.
Of course, having a high Defense stat is important, especially if you want to maximize the bonus. Full Defense or Defense with Critical Rate is therefore the best option. But if you want to increase Yun Jin’s shield strength, reserve one Artifact for HP%. You’ll be able to block more damage, but your own counter damage will be lower.
Husk of Opulent Dreams – (2) Defense +30%. (4) The wearer gains one Curiosity stack every three seconds when off-field, or when hitting an opponent with a Geo attack (no more than once every 0.3 seconds). One Curiosity stack grants a 6% Defense and 6% Geo damage bonus. There is a maximum of four stacks.
Emblem of Severed Fate – (2) +20% Energy recharge.
Defender’s Will – (2) Defense +30%.
Best Team for Yun Jin
Let’s start with the obvious dilemma: do you want more than one character to use the Burst effect, or only one? It’s probably best to go for just one Main DPS with a strong Normal Attack though, as only the stacks (not the timer!) are counted independently. A 5-Star like Yoimiya or Eula is great in this scenario.
Since our opera singer only shields herself for a very short duration, you need to reserve one slot for a shield provider or healer. The final slot can then go to a (preferably passive) Sub DPS. If you want to make optimal use of Yun Jin’s Normal Attack bonus, remember to pick characters with different Elemental types.
On a side note: you can actually disregard the Breaking Conventions Passive and go for a full Geo team with Gorou. He can boost Yun Jin’s Defense enough to make up for the loss. But you need characters like Albedo and a high-Constellation level Noelle.

Yun Jin Constellations
All of Yun Jin’s Constellation upgrades seem really useful, but especially the second and the sixth, as they boost the Normal Attack damage bonus even more. Those who favor the Sub DPS build should at least try to get the first Constellation level.
- Level 1 – Thespian Gallop: Elemental Skill cooldown is decreased by 18%.
- Level 2 – Myriad Mise-En-Scene: After using the Elemental Burst, all nearby party members’ Normal Attack damage is increased by 15% for ten seconds.
- Level 3 – Seafaring General: Increases the Elemental Burst level by three (maximum upgrade is 15).
- Level 4 – Flower and Fighter: If Yun Jin triggers a Crystallize Reaction, her Defense is increased by 20% for 12 seconds.
- Level 5 – Famed Throughout the Land: Increases Elemental Skill level by three (maximum upgrade is 15).
- Level 6 – Decorous Harmony: Characters affected by the Elemental Burst’s Flying Cloud Flag Formation have their Normal Attack speed increased by 12%.
