5 Tips to Make Your Home Beautiful Without Spending Money
1. Go Clutter-Free
Just because you have room for a bunch of stuff doesn’t mean you should pack it all in.
This concept can change your life. As I have cleared the clutter in my house, I felt like there was a weight lifted off my shoulders. My space became more free of clutter, and so did my mind. It really is freeing to get rid of unused stuff that you don’t need or treasure.
I love taking things I can live without to the thrift store. My rule is to keep only the things I truly love. Added bonuses: get a receipt for donations because it’s all tax deductible, and you’ll be helping out a charity.

2. Rearrange Furniture
Rearranging furniture can improve the entire “feel” of a room.
Look at what you already have with fresh eyes. That small table used as a bedside table might look fantastic in the entrance way. Think outside of the box.
Consider alternative uses for furniture. For example, I have an antique dresser in my dining area. I keep table linens, candles, and napkins in the drawers. Above it is a decorative wine bottle display/holder that draws the eye up from the dresser.
Functional can also be pleasing to the eye. What are the focal points in the room? Does the furniture allow you to see those features?
If you get stuck for arrangement ideas, ask a friend for suggestions or go to one of the many online decorating sites.
No matter if your rooms are big or small, the right furniture arrangement will make your home more enjoyable.
3. Remove Items
Sometimes we accumulate too much stuff! That little table you bump into every time you pass it may not be necessary in the room. Not every space needs to be filled with a decorative item.
If you are a book worm, do you need to display all your books? Do you need all the knick knacks? Remember the ol’ saying, less is more!
Put a few things in the basem*nt storage, and live with the change for a few days. You might find that it not only frees up your space, but it also frees up your mind!
4. Group Like Items
Grouping like items gives a bigger visual impact.
If you have 3 or more similar items, it’s a collection. Collections should be displayed together. Similar items don’t need to be exactly the same thing, but they need to have some commonality. Color might even be the similar feature.
To keep smaller items orderly and pleasing to the eye, try using a tray to group similar items. A mirror can also double as a tray.Add accessories such as vases, plants, or photos to add interest and polish off the grouping. Vary the height of some objects using books as a lift.
Keep in mind the rule of odd numbers which is the idea that items grouped in odd numbers are more appealing than even-numbered pairings.

5. Favorite Item
When you walk into the room and see something that brings you joy, your mood will naturally be lifted.
My favorite home decor items are usually something that has a story behind it. It could be anything such as:
- An inspirational book
- Something purchased on a trip
- A great find at a flea market
- Or even something that is simply your favorite color
To highlight your favorite item, move it to a prominent spot in your main living area. Don’t be afraid to make it stand out and make a loud statement. If it’s something you love, be sure it’s where you’ll see it and enjoy it.
If your favorite item is a smaller piece, give it some height by placing it on a stack of books. Sometimes a candle holder can be used creatively to hold an item rather than a candle. For another creative idea, read my post that shows how you can give a small item a big presence.
