Background for Teachers

In this lesson plan, the teacher will teach the life cycle of plants and students will understand how living things change.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will understand that plants have life.Students will observe the changes that occurs during the bean cycle (grown and develop).Students will learn sequence of a bean life: developing tools, stems, leaves, flowers, reproducing, and that eventually the plant grows a bean pod and repeats the cycle with the seed inside.Students will understand that life cycle of plants is different from animals.

Instructional Procedures

Show to students the power point"Teaching_presentation" (What is the life of a bean plant?)1. Show to students the bean plant and their growth.2. Ask students, "How do they think that the sun, rain, and the soil help a bean plants grow?"3. Explain to students that most plants grow from seeds and that they need water, sunlight, and air to grow.4. Ask to students "why do you wear rain coat when is raining?"5. explain to students that they wear rain coats to protect them from the rain.6. Explain to students that a seed has a hard coat in the out side called a seed coat. It protects the seed.7. Explain to students that each seed contains a tiny plant and storing food.8. Explain to students that the storing food is very important for the plant, it helps the plant to survive, grow, and reproduce, without storing food their leaves will not be able to photosynthesis and would will not be able to produce any food.9. Explain to students that photosynthesis is a process used by plants to convert light energy(sun)into chemical energy(such sugar water) that is released to fuel the plant processes.10. Explain to students that a seed that gets enough water and air may germinate(begin to grow). Roots from the germinated seed grow down into the ground. Then a stem grows up. A seedling grows out of the ground. A seedling is a young plant(the begging of a tiny plant). The plant continues to grow. the flowers on an adult plant make seeds. Some seeds from adult plants will grow into new plants.

Extensions

Students will plant their own bean seed in a cup with cotton, so they can observe and measure their growth.

Assessment Plan

Websites

Using the sketch of the stages of the life cycle of the bean seed will evaluate students' knowledge of the seed.

FAQs

Life Cycle of a Bean Seed? ›

Once germinated, the seed sprouts a root, and then a shoot which grows to become the plant's stem. This stem grows upward while the roots grow downwards. This stage is known as the seedling stage. As the bean plant continues to grow, it forms leaves and eventually flowers in a stage called the flowering stage.

What is the timeline of bean seeds? ›

Usually after between 6 to 8 weeks, you will begin to see flowers on the bean plant. The Flower Produces Fruit After the flowers are pollinated or fertilised, plant seeds grow into a fruit or seedpod. The bean plant produces pods of beans, which is what we can pick and eat, usually after about 12 to 14 weeks.

How long does it take for beans to grow from seed? ›

Plant seeds at two-week intervals to guarantee harvests of fresh beans throughout the summer. Fresh beans, depending on the variety, grow to maturity in 45 to 72 days. Most bush bean varieties can be picked after 55 to 60 days.

What is the life of bean seeds? ›

Beans, like the Chocolate Runners, are among the longest storing seeds, often sprouting after a century in ideal storage conditions. How Long Will Seeds Last? Many seeds will maintain great germination for three years even in your kitchen cupboard, though there are exceptions.

How long does it take for a bean seed to sprout? ›

Soil must be warm – if it is not warm enough, the seeds may rot, especially our untreated seeds. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 21-32°C (70-90°F). The seeds should sprout in 8-16 days, depending on conditions.

Why soak bean seeds before planting? ›

It is traditional to soak some seeds before planting them. Soaking can accelerate germination and increase the proportion of seeds that successfully germinate. Seeds have evolved a protective coating around the embryo so the embryo can survive being dispersed by some means.

How does a bean grow step by step? ›

There are four main stages in the life cycle of a bean plant: seed, germination, leaf growth, and flowering.

What are the stages of germination of bean seeds? ›

1) The seed gets air, water, and warmth. 2) The seed soaks up water; seed coat breaks and the root emerges. 3) The new plant develops roots and a shoot. 4) As the plant grows in size, it develops leaves.

What is the correct order of bean life cycle steps? ›

Bean life cycle is managed by the spring container. When we run the program then, first of all, the spring container gets started. After that, the container creates the instance of a bean as per the request, and then dependencies are injected. And finally, the bean is destroyed when the spring container is closed.

What grows first in a bean plant? ›

The seed grows small roots and shoots that push through the surface of the soil. The shoots develop into a small seedling—branches with leaves. The seedling grows into a mature plant and grows flowers, fruits, leaves or nuts that contain seeds.

How long after flowering do beans appear? ›

Pods should be full size, with small seeds, and firm, crisp flesh when picked. Pods are ready for harvest about 7-14 days after flowering. Pick regularly as the plant will flower and mature the pods for 2-3 weeks on bush varieties and for 5-6 weeks on pole types. Harvest and use immediately for best quality and flavor.

What is the life cycle of a seed? ›

The plant life cycle consists of four stages; seed, sprout, small plant, and adult plant. When the seed gets planted into the soil with water and sun, then it will start to grow into a small sprout.

Do beans regrow after picking? ›

Be careful and use two hands so you don't damage the plant when picking. Harvesting every few days will keep new flowers and beans coming, so keep a close eye on your plants.

How many beans will one plant produce? ›

The average bush bean produces roughly a half-pound of fruit throughout an entire season. Climbing beans double that at nearly a full pound per season, but even so, you will want several plants to ensure a decent harvest.

What is the growth process of a bean seed? ›

The seed grows small roots and shoots that push through the surface of the soil. The shoots develop into a small seedling—branches with leaves. The seedling grows into a mature plant and grows flowers, fruits, leaves or nuts that contain seeds.

What is the life cycle of a bean seed fly? ›

Life cycle of the bean fly

The flies hatch from late March to early May. Eggs (30-90 per fly, 1 mm long) are laid near seeds or shoots (in asparagus). The larvae hatch after 2 - 11 days. Their feeding lasts 9 - 13 days, and pupation (barrel pupa, 5 mm long) lasts 9 - 14 days.

What is the growth cycle of a common bean? ›

Common Bean in Cropping Systems

The range of growth habits (from determinate bush types to vigorous climbers), and the range of growth cycles (from 3 to 10 months in length) allow common beans to fit many production niches.
