What kind of glue can you use on ribbon? ›

For a fabric ribbon (silk, satin, etc.), use a fabric glue. For the sort of cheap plastic ribbon that's used in wrapping presents, try a cool-melt glue gun, or perhaps one of the craft glues that are marketed for scrapbooking.

For an opaque ribbon, such as a satin, grosgrain, taffeta, velvet, lace or ric-rac, you can use a glue runner, glue stick or double-sided tape. Since the ribbon is not see-through, the adhesive will not show. If your ribbon is sheer use vellum tape, brads or stitching to attach your ribbon.

Fabric ribbons tend to fray and separate at the edges, but you can keep your ribbon from fraying by cutting it at a diagonal and applying nail polish or glue at the edges. Snip the edge of your ribbon at a 45-degree angle or cut it in an inverted “v” shape, which will help with the fraying.
