What happens if you don't talk to Miniature Ranni? ›

Note that if you haven't spoken to the Ranni doll, the Baleful Shadow will not appear. Once you pick up the Miniature Ranni the Witch doll, you'll have this option to speak to it at a Site of Grace.

Ranni will ask you to serve her once you reach her. There are no negative consequences to saying yes - only boons, such as more story questlines and unique rewards. You must complete Ranni's questline to continue Fia's Questline, which unlocks yet another unique ending as well.

If you take the Amber Starlight back to Preceptor Seluvis and exhaust all his dialogue, you'll be given the Magic Scorpion Charm, technically concluding the quest. However, if you'd like to take this further and betray Ranni the Witch, you can do so.

Miniature Ranni can be spoken to at Ainsel River Main Site of Grace, she will respond after talking 3 times. After persisting on speaking to it, Ranni speaks back through the doll and asks you to eliminate a Baleful Shadow, which is located just beyond the Nokstella Waterfall Basin grace point.

The only thing that would lock out Ranni's quest is clicking on the thing (you'll know if you've been there) after beating the final boss instead of Ranni's summon sign after finishing her sidequest. pretty sure the worst that you can do is skip some stages and miss out on a bit of dialogue/lore.

If you beat Starscourge Radahn before doing Ranni's quest, an important character will end up not being available to you. You can free this important character from captivity, but then he seems to completely disappear, even if you go talk to his captor. Because of this, you can't complete Ranni's quest.
