Miquella is a background character in Elden Ring. It is speculated Miquella will play a part in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Miquella'slore

Miquella, the brother of Malenia, is one of the Empyreans. Cursed to be forever young, he created the Haligtree to allow himself to grow to be an adult and to purge the rot from Malenia. This is after the realization that the Golden Order was unable to cure Malenia from the rot.

"One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists. A gift of gratitude to the young Miquella from his father, Radagon..... And yet the young Miquella abandoned fundamentalism, for it could do nothing to treat Malenia's accursed rot. This was the beginning of the unalloyed gold." - Radagon's Rings of Light

Before he couldgrow the Haligtree to its full potential, Miquella was stolen away by Mohg, Lord of Blood, in his cocoon form. Mohg wished tohave Miquella elevated to godhood with himself as Miquella's consort. However, regardless of how much blood Mohg tried to share with Miquella, Miquella does not respond to Mohg. From a lore perspective, Sir Gideon Ofnir has confirmed that Miquella is alive because one needs to be alive to slumber. Gideon's aforesaid comment about Miquella slumberingis consistent with cut content suggesting that Miquella is in the world of his dream, and this may explain why Mohg received no response from the physical body that he has abducted from the Haligtree.

Miquella's true ability appears to be the ability to compelaffectionfrom others.

Expansion Speculations

It is speculated that Miquella may be the character riding the horse in the single image released for Shadow of the Erdtree.

• The character has exactly the same hairstyle as Miquella as shown in the opening cinematics - a crownlike braid encircling thetop part of his head, a vertical braid flowingpass the side of his ear, and one thicker braid at the back of his head accompanied by two more braids on the left and the right.
• The crownlike braid is alsoreminiscent of the crown of unalloyed gold on theHaligtree Helm.
• The fields around the character is filled with what appears to be harvestable wheat - a clear sign of abundance, which is a sight unseen in the war-torn Lands Between. Thismay be seen as Miquella's ability to bring forth growth and abundance.
• The ghostly tombs on the wheat fields may be those of the sacred spirits of the Haligtree soldiers who sacrificed themselves in a flash to guide Miquella's return. See Haligtree Soldier Ashes.
• The horse is strikingly similar to Torrent. The Spectral Steed Whistleused to summon Torrent looks similar to other unalloyed gold items.
• The bleeding Erdtree is being strangled by another treewhich appears to have grown out of Godwyn's roots. The sky above the two trees is shown to be sunless. Is this the eclipse that Miquella was working on? "Ohh great sun! Frigid sun of sol! Surrender yourself to the eclipse! Grant life to the soulless bones!" - A ghost at Castle Sol chapel

• Miquella's Haligtree area is seen by the Albinaurics, an oppressed race of artificial beings, as the chosen land.

• Cut content shows that Miquella's Great Rune is the Rune of Abundance. "Twinblade that contains the power of the Rune of Abundance. The holy power within the blade can call upon part of Miquella's own strength" - Abundance Twinblade
• Miquella's Rune of Abundance seems to be the opposite of Malenia's Rune of Rot.
• A cut quest shows that Miquella, under the guise of St. Trina, used to sing a lullaby to soothe the Frenzied Flame afflictions of the Red Eyed Merchants, helping them to retain their personhood and prevent them from becoming "one".
• Thecurrent state ofMiquella's physical body that Mohg stole can be seen in the cocoon. The physical body looks thin with misshapen skin. This, however, may not be reflective of Miquella's true state as he is said to be slumbering within the world of his dream, and a ghost from the Consecrated Snowfield said that Mohg stole the precious "flesh" (and not soul) of Miquella.
