We don't cover stallions, by stallions we mean a male horse more than 3 years old that have not been gelded. If you buy a policy for a colt, your horse must be gelded by age 3 and you must notify us when your horse is gelded or your insurance will not provide cover.

Premiums may increase at renewal. Several things affect the price you pay when you renew, including your horse’s age, previous claims and the cost of vet fees in your area.

If you move to a new home, your premium may go up or down. We will contact you to confirm the changes to the terms or price of your policy. You have the right to continue with your cover or you can cancel your policy.

You are responsible for making sure you have an up-to-date horse passport. If your horse does not have a valid passport this could invalidate your insurance. We won’t cover claims if your horse isn’t microchipped in line with UK law. We may ask to see your horse’s passport to check details of their microchip.

We don’t cover anything that’s insured under other insurance policies.

Vetting certificates must be valid and no older than 30 days. If we do not receive a copy of the vetting certificate within the first 14 days of the policy being taken out, then your insurance policy will be cancelled.

We'll need a BVA mortality certificate for:

  • All foals aged between 30 days to 1 year.

We'll need a BVA Stage 5 certificate:

  • If you choose to have cover for death over £4000
  • If your horse is aged between 4 and 12 years old and you chose to have cover for when they can no longer do the activities you chose for them.

A copy of the certificate should be emailed to info@animalfriends.co.uk within the first 14 days of your policy start date.

Cancellation Rights

Cancelling within 14 days
We’ll give a full refund if you cancel this policy within 14 days of the start date. We won’t be able to do this if we’ve paid any claims for something that took place in this period.
