Whether it’s saving you a trip to the ATM or taking out the guesswork of divvying up the lunch tab, Zelle® is a fast, safe and easy way to send money to, and request money from, friends and family. Funds are sent directly to the recipient’s account in a matter of minutes,Footnote 11 and all you need is the recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number.

You can send money to friends, family and other people you know.Footnote 22 We recommend you ask people to enroll with Zelle® before you send them money – this will help them get your payment more quickly.Footnote 11

Since money is sent directly from your bank account to another person’s bank account within minutes,Footnote 11 it’s important to only send money to people you trust, and always ensure you’ve used the correct email address or U.S. mobile number. Zelle® should not be used to send money to people you don’t know or to purchase goods.

How do I use Zelle ( registered )How do I use Zelle®?

You can send, request or receive money with Zelle®. To get started, log in to BMO Digital Banking and select “Pay & Transfer” found at the top of your screen if you log in using a web browser, or at the bottom of your screen if you log in through the mobile app. Then select “Send money with Zelle ( registered )Send money with Zelle®. Follow the instructions for enrolling if you haven’t already done so.

To send money using Zelle ( registered ) today:To send money using Zelle® today:

  1. Select “Send” and then “Add New Contact,” or you can choose a contact you have already added.
  2. Add the amount you want to send.
  3. Select “Review.” You then have the option to add a note about the reason why you are sending money.
  4. Review your transaction and then select “Send.”

To request money using Zelle ( registered ) To request money using Zelle®:

  1. Choose “Request.”
  2. Select the individual(s) from whom you’d like to request money.
  3. Enter the amount you’d like to request, and include an optional note.
  4. Review and select “Request.”

Note: Payment requests to persons not already enrolled with Zelle® must be sent to an email address and will only start processing once the recipient accepts the request.

To receive money, just share your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile phone number with a friend and ask them to send you money with Zelle®.
