STEPS BARN - A BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT AIRBNB IN DORSET - Lobster and Swan (2024)

I recently worked with Airbnb to share this beautiful bright home in Dorset on my social channels, posting about it here was not asked for as part of that collaboration but as everyone seemed to love the photos and stories, I thought you’d like to see more of the interior of this lovely place hidden away in a Dorset village. Want to see more? Come on in, the place is a treat! This magical barn conversion – Steps Barn – is in Cerne Abbas and is tucked away down a quiet farm lane and hidden in a woodland setting. The trees reflect natures light in through the windows all day and we were bathed in birdsong as all the birdy folk sung their little hearts out all day and evening. It is the most magical spot, perfect for spending time relaxing and reconnecting with nature. The home is owned by Nora & James and has everything you need for a few days of quiet woodland bliss. The aga warms the kitchen which has vintage rugs for cosy toes and has a lovely long table for dining with your chosen travel companions.Decorated for comfort (and happy eyes), Nora’s Nordic style is evident in every room. Calming colours on the walls that shimmer with green when the leaves on the trees reflect in through the windows. Beautiful textiles from Nora’s own interiors company – Projekti Tyyny and other decor items and artwork for the walls are all bought from small and local businesses.A collection of vintage chairs are gathered around the dining table on a patterned rug and this leads into a downstairs bedroom that sleeps two. I loved this room with Liberty sheets, crushed linen bedding, velvet cushions and copper highlights. It also had a bushy hydrangea in pastel blue on the windowsill – adding a fresh country feel. The place sleeps five (two downstairs, a double and single upstairs) and has an enormous sofa for lounging, snoozing and snuggling. There is also a cute hideout under the eaves which I know most kids would love for building camps with all the extra cushions and quilts! There is no TV here – part of its appeal, who needs a television when you can watch the flickering flames of a wood stove whilst enjoying a game of Scrabble?!The lounging space is fun, with vintage mid-century vibes, soft lighting, bright cushions and pretty art on the walls. This is a huge room and the sofa is at one end while the double bed is at the other. We loved walking up the stairs on our first day and seeing the open airy space with oversized light shades and windows out onto the forest.Everything in here is designed for chilled out enjoyment, from the upbeat colours to the quilted textiles. The rusty day mat with pom poms was great for morning stretches and the flashes of neon here and there give this home from home a fun, modern feel. The bathroom is small but perfectly formed with towels in cheerful pink and flashes of green from plants dotted everywhere. It was lovely to walk into each room and see green indoors with plants and flowers as well as all the nature outside. The barn itself has soft green painted windows with overlapping raw-edged wood on the front and flint details along the sides. It also has a climbing rose that is reaching wildly up towards the slate roof.We were lucky to be catching spring in all its glory across the paved courtyard and beyond and out back there is a tangle of trees, wild clematis, elder trees and bees buzzing around. There is lots to see and do in the local area including a great plant-based cafe ‘Feed The Soul‘ just down the road and plenty more in this post here.

We cannot wait to get back here and stay in another season to see how the woodland has grown, maybe in autumn, imagine all the gold of the trees? We’d also love to adventure further along the coast in the other direction next time towards this lovely looking cafe in Lyme Regis! I hope you like this beautiful bright place as much as we did, it is so full of happiness and joy. Wishing you a wonderful end to the week, Jeska x
