Will someone please tell me what the difference is between "aqua" and "teal"?
I see both of them listed under the colors we can choose when uploading our layouts, but I can't figure out the difference.I even googled them (yes, I am a total Google nerd) and they look exactly the same.
I always get stumped and then wind up just choosing both!
Any input?

To me aqua is a pastel shade and teal is the deep shade.. both are a blue green.

Teal is darker and more greenish-blue. Aqua is a lighter blue with some green. Turquoise is somewhere in the middle. They're really just different hues of more or less the same color.

LOL thanks for the clarification... I wasn't sure on this either. To me, pretty much everything is teal. Some things are light teal, some things are deep teal, and some are just teal. I never think to use aqua. LOL.

As you can see below, I think some of the paper companies are confused about the difference between aqua and teal as well.....
(I always thought as above, that aqua is a pale, pastel version of teal but that does not seem to be the case when you look at papers...)Alison

When I think of aqua I think of the bright blue of Carribean waters. Teal has a green tint to it. Turqoise is somewhere in between?? LOL! I'm wondering if you'll ever have your answer.

I think of aqua as more green and turquoise as more blue, with teal a darker aqua, with maybe a bit of grayish undertone...maybe because I think of the days when decorating was all mauves or teals with gray.
Then online I saw that turquoise was supposed to be more green and aqua more blue. I'm with you...I'd just check them all when uploading to the Gallery.~Judy

I just asked my husband, who is an artist, a painter. He's well-trained in color and has VERY defined ideas of what a color is, and they tend to be chemically based - i.e., the chemicals that make up actual paint colors. My blue and his blue are different colors, lol, so take this as you will. (My blue is apparently purple, and he refers to blue as cyan.)
He says it simply has to do with the ratio of blue to green. The hue - brightness or darkness - is only about how much white or black is added to a color.
Aqua - blue with a hint of green
Teal - a more or less even mix of blue and green. It's a pretty generic name right now for blue-green combos.
Turquoise - green with blueFeb '13Henri Jean (Ocala, Florida)
