While many say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of year, we think spring is, especially at the Biltmore! Every year, come April, the gardens at the Biltmore explode with color and fragrances of the vibrant blooms that make their appearance every Spring. It’s truly one of the most magical times to visit. Put a little spring in your step with our guide to spring at the Biltmore.
When is Spring at the Biltmore
The gardens at the Biltmore have become so famous that there is a yearly event centered around these annual blooms. Typically starting at the beginning of April, running through the end of May, the Biltmore hosts their spring event, Biltmore Blooms. Enjoy complimentary wine tastings at their winery, a variety of outdoor activities, and of course, acres of beautiful flowers, shrubs, trees, and more.
What you will see
Walk amongst rows and rows of colorful blooms with 100,000 bulbs planted at the estate. Guests will find elegant tulips at the entrance and an even bigger display of 50,000 tulips, 1,000 hyacinths, and 14,000 daffodils in the Walled Garden.
When to see
Different blooms peak at different times, so knowing when to go is helpful. Here is an estimated timeline of when to see the blooms:
- Early April – Darwin hybrid tulips begin blooming in the Walled Garden and Estate entry. Other blooms include flowering shrubs and trees, forsythia, spirea, magnolia, and flowering cherries.
- Mid-April – Darwin hybrid tulips are at their peak at the Walled Garden and estate entry. Other blooms to see include spring bulbs, dogwoods, and redbuds.
- Late April – Poppies, snapdragons, and pansies are planted. Other blooms at this time include hybrid azaleas and various flowering shrubs.
- Early May – Peak season for the 20-acre azalea garden of a million+ blossoms that produce shades of pink, orange, red, and purple.
- Late May – The rose garden is beaming with fragrance and color. Plus, the Walled Garden transitions to summer perennials and annuals.
Visit the Biltmore House
