What you will be covered for
In-patient Hospital Treatment in Singapore: You’re covered for daily ward and treatment charges, including surgical benefits (day surgery) and other inpatient hospital treatments as specified in the policy’s schedule of benefits.
Out-patient Hospital Treatment in Singapore: This covers radiotherapy, cancer drug treatment and services, outpatient kidney dialysis, approved immunosuppressant drugs (like cyclosporine and tacrolimus for organ transplants), erythropoietin and other approved drugs for chronic kidney failure, and parenteral bags.
Pre- and Post-hospitalisation Treatment: If you have Enhanced IncomeShield, expenses have to be incurred in Singapore within 180 days before and 365 days after hospitalisation. For standard IncomeShield, it is within 90 days from the hospitalisation or day surgery.
Emergency Overseas Treatment: You’re covered for immediate medical treatments in hospitals abroad due to severe injuries or conditions. However, treatments given before or after these emergencies are not covered.
What you cannot be covered for
- Outpatient procedures performed at private clinics, public hospital’s short-stay wards, community hospitals, and overseas treatments.
- Treatments for conditions like pregnancy-related treatments, cosmetic surgery, HIV infection or AIDS, among others mentioned in the full list of exclusions in the policy contract.
Can I claim my treatment in full?
While the NTUC IncomeShield Integrated Plan offers comprehensive coverage, you’re still responsible for a co-payment, which can vary depending on if you have purchased a rider. Without a rider, your co-payment can amount to 10% of your total bill. With a rider, there is a minimum 5% co-payment for treatments.
This means that even if your treatment is covered with a rider, you are required to pay at least 5% of the medical expenses out-of-pocket. For instance, if your medical bill is $1,000, you’ll need to pay a minimum of $50, and the insurance will cover the remaining $950.
For assistance on your insurance plan, feel free to contact G&L Surgical.
Will I need to pay upfront for my treatments?
Policyholders that visit the NTUC IncomeShield Panel doctors are provided with a Letter of Guarantee (LOG) at major hospitals in Singapore. This helps with the upfront cash deposit required for hospitalisation or day surgery, depending on the hospital that you are admitted to and their policies. For most patients utilising the LOG, the following arrangements should apply:
- In-patient and Out-patient Hospital Treatments: No upfront payment required, however, once the claim is reviewed, and the final outcome/payment will be relayed to the hospital, you will be sent the final bill and manage any refunds if applicable.
- Pre- and Post-hospitalisation & Emergency Overseas Treatment: You will need to pay upfront. Afterward, you can submit your claims for reimbursem*nt, which typically takes around 14 working days once all necessary documents are submitted.
Letter of Guarantee
A Letter of Guarantee (LOG) is a facility offered to IncomeShield policyholders when seeking treatment at major hospitals in Singapore. It is designed to assist with the upfront cash deposit required for hospitalisation or day surgery.
However, it’s worth noting that the LOG is not an automatic indicator of claim approval. The claim details, including the medical condition and treatments, will still undergo a review by Income.
What is the maximum LOG amount that can be issued by NTUC IncomeShield?
For treatment provided by a private specialist from IncomeShield’s Panel or Extended Panel, such as Dr Ganesh, the LOG amount can be up to $30,000.
How do I request for the NTUC IncomeShield LOG with G&L Surgical?
For policyholders of NTUC IncomeShield Plan, you may approach our clinic for assistance in requesting for a LOG. Our team will be able to assist in making the request to your insurer on your behalf.
How long will it take for the LOG to be issued?
The LOG will usually be issued to the hospital 2-3 days after the request is made, provided all criteria are met.

Submitting Documents
Hospitalised Patients: For patients who are warded following the treatment, your documents will be submitted via e-Filing from the hospital’s administration.
Outpatient Patients: Patients are required to submit their documents electronically via the hospital or medical institution, as they are required to send all claims electronically through the system set up by MOH. You may visit the NTUC Income website for your hospitalisation claims submission. Alternatively, you can contact our clinic and we will be happy to assist you with your claims.
After submitting your claim
For inpatient and outpatient hospital treatment in Singapore: The claim will be reviewed, and the final outcome will be communicated to the hospital, who will then send the patient the final bill. The hospital will also handle any refunds if applicable.
For pre- and post-hospitalisation treatment and Emergency overseas treatment: Claims typically take around 14 working days to process once all necessary documents are received. If further clarification is needed, it might take longer, and you will be kept informed.
